This Chicken Fried Steak is a Southern classic—crispy, tender beef steak coated in a seasoned breading and smothered in creamy country gravy. The ultimate comfort food!
2tbspall-purpose flouruse leftover oil and bits from frying
1.5cupsmilkwarm
1/4tspsaltto taste
1/4tspblack pepperto taste
Instructions
Season the cube steaks with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
Set up a dredging station: flour in one bowl, and a mixture of eggs and milk in another.
Dredge each steak in flour, then in egg mixture, then back in the flour, pressing to coat well.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry steaks 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown. Remove and set on paper towels.
Drain excess oil, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the skillet. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
Serve steaks hot with gravy poured over the top.
Notes
Great with mashed potatoes or buttered corn on the side. Make sure to pound steaks evenly for consistent frying.
